Age of Onset and Additional Considerations

Trinity Omniscient Care, Inc. has provided education regarding Age of Onset and Additional Considerations for intellectual disabilities as defined by the State of Florida and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD).

Age of Onset: The intellectual disability must originate before the age of 18. This is a critical criterion for eligibility for APD services.

Additional Considerations:

  • The disability must be expected to continue indefinitely
  • It must constitute a substantial handicap to the person's ability to function in society
  • Documentation of the disability is required, including psychological evaluations and adaptive behavior assessments
  • The person may also have related developmental disabilities that occurred before age 22
